Delivering the quality education over 15+ years
Bangladesh Elementary School (BES) was established in August, 1995 by myself Nadera Banu Begum and Farah Ahmed to go over the School ‘Living Dolls’ from Mrs Selina Murad who was shifting to Dhaka from Chittagong.Farah Ahmed, my daughter, was teaching in this school for Six years and I was teacher in Bangladesh Mohila Shamittee Girls High School (BMSGHS) for 29 Years. When ‘Living Dolls’ School was being sold, my daughter (Farah Ahmed) requested me to buy the School in partnership with her. At the beginning, I was apprehensive but I agreed with aim of imparting English to middle section of people. Bangladesh Mohila Shamittee Girls High School (BMSGHS) was Bengali Medium School for which it was not easy to teach English to them effectively.
After Independence of Bangladesh, We were very at low ebb regarding English language as all the English Medium School converted into Bengali Medium School by the dictate of Government with aim of that we have fought the war for the Bengali Language. But after a decade or two, it became very obvious there the middle section of people were being deprived of opportunity in the job section due to their incompetence in English Language.
The aim of the School became to focus on the middle section of people to upgrade them in English Language. Of course, at that time we did not have permission to teach National Curriculum in English. So, We were compelled to follow O’level (Edexcel and Cambridge) syllabus. We went write up to the ministry of Education to get start National Curriculum in English, But we did not get any response from the concern authority. We started the School with 35 Children and with a very meager amount of Fund. We could just Break Event with the Income and Expenditure. In the mean time, My Partner, Farah Ahmed, left for Dhaka for the betterment of her children’s education. But I was not alone; I had quite a few supportive teachers for the development of the School. In 1998, The Government made a policy that Established English Medium School could start National Curriculum English Medium School in rented premises. This came as a Golden opportunity of School and I.I did not believe O’Level as it was not viable for the general mass and such high Standard English is not required for the people who study and work for their own country.
This is not a Profit making Institution. As our target is to spread English through National Curriculum to as many children possible to the common people for better future. As I say,
“Bengali Language is our Existence,
English Language is our Survivor.”
We have started with 35 Children after 18 years we have 1600 Children (Instead of Students, I consider them to be my children). We have come out with 5 O’Level batches and 5 S.S.C batches through National Curriculum. From this year’ 2013, we have closed down O’level Course as we need more space for National Curriculum (N.C) children and my belief is our Local Curriculum is superior than any foreign one.
We believe in that every child is an achiever and any child of average intelligence can upgrade themselves with proper and effective nurturing of the institution and teachers. Every child has a right to the best out of life that is blessing of ALMIGHTY.
